Ready to Launch!
It’s time, right? Not just to write down goals … or dream of possibilities … or feel the emptiness of an unfulfilling job or life … but time to actually DO something about it.
It’s time to set something in motion, get something going, embark on an adventure, roll out of bed, shake off the sleepies and celebrate that you feel READY TO LAUNCH into 2019 doing it differently!
I love the end of the calendar year as I peek into the possibilities of the next. It’s a great time for reflection and a wonderful time to feel hopeful that I have been given a “do over”. Don’t get me wrong. I fully understand that each morning when I open my eyes that I have been given a mulligan. But, there is just something magical when the ball in Times Square begins to descend that I feel a sense of relief and I turn the page.
I’m preparing for my launch party! Champagne, oysters on the half shell, streamers, friends and supporters and even a tango or two. We are going to dance all night, sleep all morning and wake up refreshed and raring to go. We are ready to leave a positive imprint on our world in need, ready to solve problems that need solving, ready to inspire others that could use some light in their lives. I invite you to join me and the other amazing guests coming to my house!
If you need a message of hope, and who doesn’t, just take a look at the list of 2018 Best for the World: Changemakers, a report that B Lab released on Sept. 5, 2018. This list celebrates the companies tackling the hard work to make measurable, positive impact improvement. Each of the more than 2,500 Certified B Corporations declares, upon certification, to be committed to continuous impact improvement. And, these rock stars have made tangible progress on that commitment.
The process to become B corp certified can be daunting if you just have a toe in the water or just a hunger to be involved in making a difference. So, start small, one little step at a time. Come to the party and let my tribe show you some of the dance moves. I only ask that you step on to the dance floor, begin the launch process and countdown. Be a First Mover and take the lead. Show your employees, customers and entire ecosphere that you walk the talk. Contrary to the old school of business, good guys and gals do not finish last!
Our business world is changing. Despite the news each day which makes us feel like we are moving backwards into the dark ages, amazing progressive actions are being taken. Take a look at the Deloitte Millennial Survey 2018 to see what this generation of talent wants, BlackRock’s (the largest investor in the world) latest letter to CEOs about what investors want, or Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s Accountable Capitalism Act on what regulators and policymakers want. In every instance they are demanding transparency, inclusiveness and positive social impact from companies, whether you are an individual in the service industry, a small manufacturing company or a Fortune 500.
There is hope my friends, but it will take every single one of us. I’m in awe of you and the wisdom you bring to the table that collectively can and will solve any and every issue on this planet. We just need you to launch, we need for you to bring that one thing that we don’t have because it’s uniquely yours, to the table!
